Teen from TN Meets Up with Rising Singer in VA To Film EMOTIONAL TERRORIST an Explosive Music Video about Mental Illness

Billy Mercury & Evan Hurst during the filming of Emotional Terrorist

Complete Strangers around the Globe Collaborate to Send a Powerful Message about Mental Illness

VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA, USA, December 30, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — 17 year -old Evan Hurst traveled from Knoxville, Tennessee, to Virginia Beach, VA, for what Hurst called “a life changing experience”. He was welcomed by the professional film crew TCFVA and joined by vocalist Billy Mercury and actress Brittany O’Neill to create the music video EMOTIONAL TERRORIST.

Executive Producer and Lyricist, Amy Havens Selleck, reflects on the crazy way this video came to fruition.
“Evan’s father had shared the teen’s music with me via text. His instrumentals were exemplary. One of his songs wouldn’t leave my head. It stuck. I asked permission to test run some lyrics and the rest is history.’
‘Ironically, the next day, I spoke with a friend who was in an abusive relationship with her bi-polar partner. That same night, I was involved in a heated exchange with a loved one. It hit me that EVERYONE has been on the giving and/or receiving end of mental illness. No one asks for it. No one wants it. Mental illness strikes unannounced like a terrorist in the night.EMOTIONAL TERRORIST was penned from feelings of utter frustration, anger and desperation.”

Evan’s response after first glancing at the lyrics is a testament to the depth of this young man’s spirit. “I now know what I want to do with my music. I want to use my music as a voice to reach more individuals and bring awareness to people and issues that are overlooked or forgotten.”

Cetre Pegues, Director of “Emotional Terrorist” stated that the project literally landed on his lap at the same time he learned about a friend who had been living in “emotional terror”. “When the project received the ‘green light’, I went into research mode. That is how the scissor scene came to be. I had no idea how many people cut themselves until I interviewed a friend.
I had been trying to work with Billy Mercury for a few years but the right one kept missing us. When Amy told me the sound she was looking for, I knew Billy was the perfect match.”

“I wanted someone who could sing raw lyrics with a smile on his face. I guess it was my subliminal message that no matter how bad things can get, you just have to keep going with a smile. Billy was a direct ‘bulls-eye’.”

Billy Mercury’s sound is the epitome of “feel good music.” The multi-faceted rapper/soul singer is known to be the “hidden gem” of the DMV music and Hip-Hop culture.

Recently, Mercury earned his spot on BET’s premiered music competition show, “The Next Big Thing”. Music magazines have likened his sound to such heavy hitters as Jay-Z, Anderson .Paak and the late J Dilla.

“When Cetre first presented the project to me, my first thoughts were, 'I’ll just sing what was written when I get it…' but when I heard the instrumentals, read the lyrics and realized a 17 year- old wrote the music, I was ALL in.”, exclaimed Mercury.

Evan recounts the moment when he first heard Billy singing the song during filming. “I thought to myself, Wow. This was just something I played on my guitar in my room. It’s not just music anymore. We created a MESSAGE. “

During production, it became apparent that all involved had their personal stories of how mental illness has affected their lives.

Lead actress, Brittany O’Neill was forthcoming in admitting that expressing herself through the character of Serenity was a therapeutic process for her own personal struggles. “This project was a humbling reminder that I can still reach those dark places as an actress. I really connected to the extreme ups and downs of this relationship.”

While diving into the research process, Selleck was shocked to learn the amount of people affected by mental illness. “Our society is suffering behind closed doors seemingly as our relationships crumble while the problem continues to grow.
One can clearly witness in our video how Billy and Serenity truly love each other. They are both desperate. They are both hurting. Billy doesn’t understand. Serenity feels hopeless.
These are not uncommon struggles in many of our households today. 80% of marriages end in divorce where addictions, major depression and anxiety are factors.”

Statistics shared by MentalHealth.gov are startling:

• One in five American adults have experienced a mental health issue.
• One in 25 Americans live with a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia, bi polar disorder or depression.

What were Evan’s final thoughts when asked what impact he hopes EMOTIONAL TERRORIST will have on the general public? “I would love for this song to shed light on the urgency of finding better resources to help those with mental disorders and also to help the loved ones affected living through the terror with them. There is such a negative stigma on this topic but it can’t get better until we can openly talk about it and be honest with ourselves and others.”

The Janes, “a heavily sequined, glorious-voiced singing trio, performed a comic medley….their raucous audience was on their feet cheering.””

— The New York Times

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, USA, December 30, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — North/South Consonance, Inc. kicks off its 40th consecutive season and celebrates the arrival of the New Year with a free-admission concert on Sunday afternoon January 12, 2020.

The event will feature the GRAMMY nominated North/South Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Max Lifchitz performing five exciting and eminently accessible works by living American composers. Soloists for the occasion will include the vocal trio known as The Janes; violist Yumi Oshima and accordionist William Schimmel.

Featured will be recently completed compositions by Edmund Cionek, Leandro Espinosa, Ethan Resnik, William Schimmel and Davide Tammaro.

The concert will start at 3 PM and end approximately at 4:30 PM. It will be held at the auditorium of Christ and St. Stephen's Church (120 West 69th Street) in Manhattan. The auditorium is ADA accessible. No tickets or reservations needed.

The following compositions will be heard for the first time:

Edmund Cionek's Once Upon a Homicide for three vocalists and string orchestra is a dramatic work tinged with film noir sensibilities. The music of the three-movement work is full of jazz-inspired harmonies and syncopated rhythms. It conjures dystopian soundscapes, obscure nightclubs and even a brutal killing. Written especially for The Janes Trio (vocalists Christine Ranck, Sula Haska, and Patti Wyss) it employs lyrics also penned by Mr. Cionek.

Leandro Espinosa's Nocturno for viola and strings was written at the request of violist Yumi Oshima a close friend of the Mexican American composer. The music highlights the sweetness and profundity of the viola while evoking the sound of the nightly soul.

Ethan Resnik' Blue Moonlight is a neo-impressionistic work that aims to illustrate how a rare blue moon harmonizes with the warmth of the air under the luminous sky as it spreads its blue light. Scored for string ensemble this is the first time a professional ensemble performs a work by this exceptionally talented young composer.

Willam Schimmel's Variations on a Waltz by Pee Wee King for accordion and strings consists of a series of variations on the million-selling classic Tennessee Waltz written by the country music star Pee Wee King. Schimmel's symphonic work captures the light and dark qualities inherent in King's beautiful melody while giving the soloist ample opportunity for technical display. An acclaimed accordionist, the composer himself will appear as the featured soloist for the premiere of this highly stimulating work.

Davide Tammaro's Nautilus was inspired by Jules Verne's novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Nautilus is the submarine, which carries the passengers throughout marvelous adventures underneath the oceans. The melodies of this work are often repeated as retrogrades or inversions to connect all elements because at the end, everything belongs to the sea.

Since its inception in 1980, the North/South Consonance, Inc. has brought to the attention of the New York City public over 1,000 works by composers hailing from the Americas and elsewhere representing a wide spectrum of aesthetic views. Its activities are made possible in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs as well as a grant from the Music Performance Fund and the generosity of numerous individual donors.

"It is the ONLY feature film about Flint, Michigan that was actually shot on location," said Cayce, a graduate of USC School of Cinematic Arts. "It was important for me to give audiences the real Flint and the illustrate the struggle in the community."

The Flint drinking water contamination began in April 2014 when Flint changed its water source from treated Detroit Water and Sewerage Department water (sourced from Lake Huron and the Detroit River) to the Flint River. Officials failed to apply corrosion inhibitors to the water. Five years later, the crisis continues.

The top cast is lead by "Speed" and "Five Heartbeats" star Hawthorne James (Daniel Hartwell) with Mount Clemens, Michigan native Erica Peeples (Poppy Hartwell), Henry Clay (Uncle Clyde) and introducing Tecoya Harris (Chasity Hartwell). "I am a Detroiter and we look out for our own," said Cayce. "My team scouted for popular locations such as MoPete's and Angelo's to shoot Flint Tale and my casting director Marie Lemelle and I cast natives of Flint, Detroit for speaking roles not just background to bring the authenticity." The then-Flint Mayor Karen Weaver (Term from 2015 to 2019) believed in the Flint Tale movie and made a special appearance in the movie.

The Flint Tale team of producers are Executive Producer Cheryl Rich, an entertainment industry veteran and a more than 20-year active member of the Aim4TheHeart.org and a former board member for the Pico Youth and Family Center; Producer Marie Lemelle, the founder of Platinum Star Public Relations, former City of Glendale Commissioner for the Commission on the Status of Women, and film and PPV producer; Co-Producer Carole Murphy; Associate Producers Tecoya Harris and Shacola Thompson.

Grammy nominated artist and founder of Century Studios Aaron Bing created a moving original soundtrack that supports the story telling of this dynamic film. Bing also makes his acting debut in Flint Tale.

"This is my 7th film and truly a labor of love," said Cayce. "I am excited to continue the legacy of USC and my mentor the late, great filmmaker John Singleton for bringing authentic stories to the screen."

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, December 21, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Winter Wonderland, located at the Church of Scientology at the intersection of 18th and Grand, hosted an all-star jazz concert Tuesday night, December 17—a highpoint for jazz fans throughout the area.

“I am honored to be asked to come out and play in Kansas City,” said Mark Isham. “This is a birthplace of jazz so it is extra special to be performing right here.”

“I love playing for people in this community in Kansas City and supporting a good cause,” said Stanley Clarke. “This was a great evening.”

The concert was part of a program to bring everyone together to celebrate what the holiday season stands for—goodwill, peace and a sense of community.

“Crossroads being all about the arts, a music event at Winter Wonderland is very fitting,” said Susanna Johansson, spokesperson for the Church of Scientology.
